10/05/2015 - Timperley & District League
Reddish Villa 2 VS 3 Hough End Griffins Lions
Man of the Match: Team performance
Goals Scored By: Kieran Leighton (2)
Another fine performance from this group of lads against the league champions.

The first half was terrific with some fantastic football and a goal that wouldn't have looked out of place at higher levels. The boys dominated proceedings and the only thing missing was that second goal that you need against a good team like Hough End.

Hough End came out very strong in the second half and the lads lost their shape for 10 minutes and conceded three very quick goals - the third down to a poor decision on the line which the referee had the good grace to apologise for at the end of the game. The lads eventually composed themselves and began to find their way back in to the game and brought the score back to 2-3 with minutes remaining. A great response from everyone.

Well done all 13 lads on the day.

Altrincham Juniors 0 VS 3 Reddish Villa
Man of the Match: Team performance
Goals Scored By: Mackenzie Hope (2), Kieran Leighton
With only 11 players and one of those lads playing after taking pain killers this potentially could have been a difficult night.

We controlled the game from start to finish and played some very good football restricting Altrincham to long balls and one or two shots from distance.

Well done all 11 lads on the night.

03/05/2015 - Timperley & District League Cup Final
Reddish Villa 1 VS 3 Hough End Griffins Lions
Man of the Match: Niall Mannion awarded man of the match by opposition
Goals Scored By: Ikechukwu Obiemmanyel
A game of two halves. Hough End the better team for 40 minutes and went in 1-0 ahead at half time. Second half was an excellent performance from Villa scoring a very good goal to make the game 1-1. We conceded from a set piece with 15 minutes to go but then responded well to have 3 very good chances to take the game to extra time which I think the lads deserved on the day. With seconds of the game remaining we gambled and pushed everyone on and were caught on the break with what turned out to be the last kick of the game to make it 3-1.

Congratulations to Hough End.

Excellent performance lads. Well done all 14 boys on the day.

After a couple of good performances the lads were a bit flat again today and struggled to get going. Having said that it's difficult at any level to play teams that put players behind the ball so well done to the lads for sticking to it and getting the result.

Great free kick from Mackenzie to take the points.

After the success of the last couple of seasons (two titles and the County Cup) this was always going to be a test for the lads going into another very strong league.

Well what can I say? This group of lads continue to inspire me and they are a credit to themselves, their team mates and their families.

After several excellent performances we came to our final game needing a point to take the league title. The football we played in the first half against strong opposition was a joy to watch and we should really have gone in at the interval one or two goals to the good but the score remained 0-0.

Credit to Unicorn who came out strong in the second half and took the lead from a set piece but if there was any justice in the game then the lads would get another opportunity to level. This came with 5 minutes remaining when Ike managed to find the net.

Fantatstic achievement and well done to all 14 lads who have all played a part for the team this season.

Cheers

Big thank you to Niall Mannion for stepping up and taking the goalkeepers jersey in Pete's absence.

Outstanding achievement from this set of lads tonight to win the prestigious Manchester County Cup.

In a very tight game, with good football played by both teams, the lads found themselves 2-0 down going in to the last ten minutes but showed tremendous spirit and heart to get themselves back level to take the game to penalties. The lads kept their nerve to take the shoot-out 4-3 with some excellent penalty taking.

Stunning achievement and fully deserved for the effort the lads have put in this year.

Tough game for the lads today away at Cheadle & Gatley which put second against third in the league. The pitch wasn't great and the wind made it difficult to get the ball down. We also chose this game to give a very under par performance and it took us a long time to work our way in to the game against a well organised and disciplined team.

After going a goal down the boys created several chances and we were finally rewarded for our persistence in the second half. At this point we had enough chances to go and win the game but Cheadle held firm.

A good point all things considered.

Only 12 players today and no allocated referee was always going to make it a difficult trip to the cup holders.

The lads were outstanding. 2-0 up and in control going into the last 8 minutes it was going to take something out of the ordinary to change the outcome and this is what happened. Anyone at the game will know the reasons for this and to say I am dissappointed for the Villa boys and the way they played the game is an understatement.

The boys continued to try and play football under challenging circumstances and for this I am extremely proud of them.

The game turned into a farce and spoilt what was a very competitive match to the point that I felt it was necessary to end the game in the first half of extra time before something regrettable happened, on or off the field, or a boy suffered a serious injury. In all honesty, I should have taken the Villa boys off the field much earlier than I did and I won't be making the same mistake again going forward.

I just want to reiterate how proud I was of the 12 lads today.

One final point. I have read on the Bramhall website that Reddish Villa 'threw in the towel'. It was my decision (not the lads) as manager to halt proceedings for the reasons given above. This comment is both unfair and disrespectful to the 12 boys who played with great committment and class on the day. At no point in the game did they 'throw in the towel'. A very poor comment which should be removed.

If anyone would like me to expand further on this or indeed get a true perspective on the game then please feel free to give me a call to discuss. My contact details are on the website and my mobile number is 07971093721.

Cheers

I can use lots of words to sum up the lads performance tonight; DESIRE, HEART, CHARACHTER, COMMITTMENT and BELIEF. To put it simply the boys were OUTSTANDING.

We overcame a very physical side with two lads over 6" in the starting eleven. Villa started on fire and were two goals to the good early doors and we also missed a penalty. Vikings had a 5-10 minute spell where they earned themselves two corners, one of which they converted, but other than that Villa outplayed the opposition but also won the physical battle which sometimes this team needs to do more.

The second half was all Villa and I don't recall Paddy touching the ball once! Delighted with the attitude shown, the lads have had a great season and fully deserve their title.

Great season boys and I look forward to working with you all through the summer.

Cheers.

The boys won the league today with a great victory against Rose Hill. All the lads were up for the game from the first whistle and they fully deserved their victory with some outstanding football, great work rate and teriffic finishing.

This has been a fantastic first season in the Metro league and the team fully deserve this title. Well done to all the boys, very proud of you.

Also, big thanks to all parents/grandparents/family for the outstanding support you continue to give this team.

One final thanks to Paddy for working his socks off on Sunday to get the pitch in great shape so that the game could go ahead.

The boys travelled to Hazel Grove to play Apollo. After a slow start, where Apollo matched our work rate, the boys gradually took control and played some great football to win the game well.

Some outstanding performances all over the pitch and great encouragement from the lads made for a great display. All the goals were very well taken.

Well done to all 13 lads on the day.

The boys got back to winning ways today on Whitehill with a good victory against stubborn opposition. Bollington were very committed but once we got the ball down and used the width the lads created chance after chance and the result never looked in doubt (although the first goal took a while coming!).

Some very good performances all over the pitch and a deserved clean sheet for the back four and Paddy.

Awful game of football with neither side stringing two passes together. Droylsden were very committed so credit to them for work rate but collectively we were bobbins.

Six or seven clear cut chances, including a first minute penalty, were not taken and the game just turned into a scrappy affiar from that point onwards.

Not the sort of game to rush home for on a Tuesday night.

Need to bounce back for the remaining fixtures.

Top of the table Hazel Grove visited Whitehill today. From the first whistle I could tell that the lads were up for the game and we took an early lead through a goal from Mackenzie. Credit to Hazel Grove who defended well but we had chances to improve on our lead without taking them in a bit of a scrappy first half.

The second half was much better and we managed to get on the ball and find our passing game. CC took man of the match for a composed performance topped off with a tremendous strike for the second goal which we fully deserved. Jordi and Mackenzie both scored to see the game out at 4-0.

Good, solid performance from the lads and we tried to play football on a poor surface which sometimes went against us. Well done to all 13 boys.

After going 1-0 down in the first two minutes the travelling support would be forgiven for thinking that it was going to be another one of those days for the team. However, the response was tremendous and we bossed possession for the next 30 minutes of the first half and with a little more luck would have gone in level at the break.

The second half kicked off and the boys were again on the front foot but would the deserved equaliser come? Chance after chance came and went but finally Mackenzie struck a great shot and the boys never looked back taking their chances to take the game 4-1.

A great team performance and it was good to hear the encouragement from the lads to each other. The difference between this result and the last two weeks is that we played for 70 minutes, used the ball well and as I said, we all got behind each other.

Great footballing display. Well done to all 14 lads.

Reddish Villa 0 VS 4 Parkwyddn Juniors
Man of the Match: Paddy Neagle

The boys great run in the County Cup came to an end today on Whitehill. In a close first half where I felt Reddish were on top, although neither side really created any clear cut chances, we had a dubious penalty awarded against us with what turned out to be the last kick of the first half. The visitors scored and the ref blew for half time.

I told the lads at the break that their response to last weeks performance had been teriffic and we were well in this game and the signs were good going into the second half. Slighty concerning was the fact that the penalty was still being discussed whilst I was giving the team talk and this was the start of what I can only describe as one of the most dissapointing second half's I have seen in a long time.

The game was scrappy and it was the problem of not clearing our lines which continues to haunt us and a sloppy goal made it 2-0. This is when the bickering began and the blame and this started to take away from us the committment and effort of the first half. I remember reading a match report last season by Mike Bridge on his own team which emphasised the need for a team mentatlity and spirit and unfortunately we fell away in my opinion because of the lack of this. We win, draw and lose as a team and if any lad disagrees with this then Villa is not the right club for them.

The result flattered the visitors on the day but it was a sad way to bow out of the tournament when I know that this team can offer so much more.

Reddish Villa 1 VS 4 Cheadle & Gatley Athletic
Man of the Match: -
Goals Scored By: Jack Hartley
We gave one of our worst performances that I can remember against the top team in Division One. A slow start, too many individual mistakes and not enough boys competing in all areas of the pitch made for a difficult afternoon.

Credit to Cheadle & Gatley who were organised and well drilled but we didn't half make it easy for them. I must also take some responsibility for the formation I played which served us so well in our last game against Curzon in the County Cup but in all honesty it never had a chance to get going after conceding two early goals which left us chasing the game.

The strange thing about this game is although we performed so poorly we still created enough chances to make the game closer, three efforts cleared off the line and two very good chances from set pieces which we really should have scored. Also, a blatant penalty at 3-1 which wasn't given which leads me to the referee. He got the offside decision wrong for the first goal, gave a free kick on the edge of the box for their second goal which baffled everybody and denied us a clear penalty in the second half accusing our player of diving which was ridiculous. I never complain about referees but today the lad was not up to it and I will be advising the league on this.

In summary, we can all have a poor game and sometimes decisions can go against us but the big problem today was our desire to win tackles and chase players down. It just wasn't there. The midfield was anoynmous at times and I don't remember the front players getting a decent ball during the game. The defence wasn't it's normal composed self so all in all a poor performance.

Let's pick ourselves up and move forward.

Goals Scored By: Jack Hartley, BOYS WIN 3-2 ON PENALTIES - Penalties scored by Jordan O'Shea, Jack Hartley and Niall Mannion and Paddy Neagle saved two
The boys battled through to the last eight of the County Cup and got their reward for a fantastic second half performance. We were not at our best in the first half but still shouldn't have gone in a goal down. However, Curzon took the lead and we had a game on our hands.

The second half was all Reddish and we created enough clear cut chances to win two games never mind one. A well worked goal got us level and we were a constant threat going forward but we just couldn't take our chances.

The game finshed 1-1 and we went straight to penalties. Paddy made two great saves and Jordan, Jack and Niall put their penalties away to take us through.

Fully deserved, but we need to compete and play for two halfs boys!

Not the best start to the game as I lost my way to the ground and the weather was very poor but the lads started at a teriffic pace and raced into a two goal lead. Very good footballing performance in the first 20 minutes and we should have gone in at half time more than two up.

The second half was difficult as we had to contend with the wind but we kept the ball on the ground and gradually after a slow start we worked our way back into the game and played some lovely football to go three up.

The team was solid today and would have had a clean sheet except for a very poor decision from the referee to allow Didsbury to score from an offside position which was clear for everyone to see.

Well done to all 14 lads on the day.

In difficult conditions and on a poor surface where the ball was bobbling around all over the place the boys overcame a physical and committed team on Whitehill.

It took us ten minutes to get going and we took a two goal lead but having missed several opportunities, Apollo scored from a corner which made the scoreline look a lot closer than it should have been. Fair play to the Villa lads who bounced back and scored another two goals before half time. The fourth goal was tremendous as we kept the ball on the deck and in five passes from the back to front the ball was in the back of the net. Great football, even when we were not really at our best.

The second half was dominated by Villa and their keeper did his best to keep us at bay but we ran out worthy winners even when we were well below our normal level of play.

We need to start quicker boys and be awake from the first whistle. Well done all 15 boys.

What a great performance from the lads today away at Middleton. The game was a fantastic football game with both teams committed to trying to play the game the right way and the ball was zipping around the pitch at a fast and furious pace. Coupled with great work rate from both sides it made for a very entertaining game.

The boys went in at half time a goal up and it really should have been two with the chances we created. Middleton came back strong in the second half and got their equaliser which then spurred us on to try and get the winner. I thought we finished the game strong in the last fifteen minutes and Joe O'Brien scored a great goal from the left hand side which gave us a deserved win.

Superb victory - lets keep it going.

Great performance from the lads today and we should have taken all the points. The work rate and committment was there for all to see and the football we played in the second half was a joy to watch.

The first goal we scored was the type of football this team is capable of. A flowing move down the left between CC and Joe O'Brien led to Joe delivering a great ball across the face of goal which Mackenzie met and buried into the roof of the net. More of the same please lads!!

All 14 lads contributed to a fine performance and we played some lovely football. We created some good chances and all the goals were well taken and easy on the eye.

The boys dug in today and got the win on a very poor pitch. We played on this pitch 12 months ago and it was small then so it would prove to be very difficult. We were also without a recognised centre forward with two lads unavailble for the match.

To the game. The lads played some nice football when we could and there was only one team that deserved the win. It was great to see that we could compete when we had to and every lad gave 100%.

Talk about making hard work of a game. We created so many chances but didn't finish them off. At 2-0 the next goal was always going to be crucial and Didsbury got if from their second corner of the game and their third attack.

We need to start taking our chances otherwise we will continue to make life difficult for ourselves.

We saw the result out but I felt that we should have been out of sight going into the last 15 minutes.

Some good perfomances to note. Matty was accomplished with the ball at the back and got us in good positions early on. CC again ran his socks off and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Jordan O'Shea delivered some great corners which we need to make more of. Both Jordan Burns and Josh at full back gave solid performances and Mackenzie got into good positions in the second half and was unlucky not to find the net.

Must add that the second goal was exactly what this team is capable of. Good movement on the right by Jack Hartley was followed up with a great cross which Kieran met with a sweet header which gave the keeper no chance.

Well done to all 14 lads.

Hazel Grove United 2 VS 1 Reddish Villa
Man of the Match: Joe Albiston, Callum Campbell
Goals Scored By: Callum Campbell
We may have lost the game but we won the football match. Credit to Hazel Grove for their organisation but there was only one team in it from a football perspective.

On a small, narrow pitch it was the usual scenario of playing a team that defended in numbers and then looked for a ball over the top or on the break, coupled with the fact that the Hazel Grove back line defended deep and like their lives depended on it! We have been here so many times and it is a credit to our lads that we continue to try and keep the ball and play the right way. Like I said at the end of the game, this was a good performance but one or two lads were a little off the pace and we need to put this right next week. This starts with encouragement to each other and showing leadership in all areas of the field.

Joe took MOM for a strong performance in the middle of the park but I also felt that CC deserved the recognition as he took his goal well and played in three different positions which gave us good momentum going forward. Both lads ran their socks off.

Must mention the refs performance. He was very poor and got some key decisions wrong and he was unable to stamp his authority on the game. Three big decisions went against us which you can't afford when the scoreline is tight.

Well done to all 15 lads. Credit to the club and your parents.

Whaley Bridge were very competitive and first to a number of balls but once we calmed down and began to pass the ball there was only going to be one team that would win the game. Once we began to work as a team the football was good to watch and we found some great positions on the field.

Two soft goals put the boys 2-0 down but the boys showed massive determination and belief to come back and win the game 4-2, and in all honesty it could and should have been more.

On a short pitch we didn't use the width as we should have done and we also gave away too many silly free kicks which can cause problems on such a small playing surface.

The boys were outstanding away at Dukinfield today. Evey lad performed and we passed and moved like a team. The football in the first half particularly was a joy to watch and we found red shirts all over the pitch.

Ryan in goals was exceptional and his talking and coming for the ball settled the back four straight away. Danny was outstanding at right back and showed the sort of desire I want to see in every lad as he was first to everything. Jack Griffiths made some superb interceptions and Matty continues to impress at centre back and was composed and read the game very well. Josh Taylor also performed very well and worked hard for the team. Niall, CC and Marley dominated the play in midfield and the 'triangle' passes between the three put us in good positions on the field. Each of these lads always give their all for the team. Both the wide men of Jack Hartley and Joe O'Brien made some fantastic runs and the delivery of the balls into the box from both lads was fantastic. Mackenzie up front lead the line brilliantly and his first touch and movement for the ball allowed us to play high up the pitch.

To the goals. Superb tackle from Jack Griffiths put Joe O'Brien in posession on the left and his cross field ball to Jack Hartley on the right was tremendous. Jack got himself in front of the full back and finished in style. The second goal came from some great play through the midfield and a nice glancing header from CC put Niall in and he was quick to react and put the ball in the bottom corner. The third goal came from Danny being aware and looking for the short corner which he gave back to Jack Hartley and he whipped in a tremendous cross which Mackenzie buried.

The second half we continued to play with confidence and style and we created several chances which we were unlucky not to take. One move in particular was outstanding with some brilliant one touch football and Jack Hartley was unlucky not to finish with his shot hitting the post.

Josh Belfield, Nat and Dylan all came on and each lad adapted quickly and played football which was great to see. Well done boys.

Great football today from all fourteen boys - well done and lets keep it going.

We were dissappointed that AFC Stanley could only field 9 men but having said that you can only play what is put out in front of you. After a slow start the boys got going and made the ball do the work and used the extra man well.

Sometimes it is difficult at the back when you play a team that is short of numbers as you go from understanding your job, where you pick a man up, to having a bit more space and perhaps too much time. In this respect it was a good learning curve for the back four as AFC Stanley packed the midfield and defence and played the long ball to catch us out over the top. We need to be more positive in this respect and communicate better as at times we were expecting each other to take control of situations.

Glossop JFC 3 VS 1 Reddish Villa
Man of the Match: Dylan Swales
Goals Scored By: Mackenzie Hope
The boys were magnificent today away at Glossop. Let me set the scene.

Up until late Saturday night we were down to 10 men and missing our goalkeeper. On top of that the game was to be played on 3G Astro so it was going to be a different experience for the lads against a team unbeaten this season who top the league table.

I put a call in to Dylan on the Saturday which told me the game should go ahead. His attitude to being asked to play in goal was absolutely magnificent and he totally embraced the responsibility. Matty who had been poorly on the Saturday came through for the team and I managed to get hold of the new lad Nat which took the team to 12 for the day.

To the game. Two words for Reddish Villa - TOTAL FOOTBALL. I was so proud of the way the lads performed, particularly after going a goal down early on as we were still coming to grips with the surface. The response from Villa was tremendous and we passed Glossop to death. The equaliser finally came after we had missed a good number of chances and we went in at the break level after a well worked goal with some great intricate play from Niall and CC who put Nat in behind the full back to square for Mackenzie to finish off.

The break came at the wrong time and we started slow again and gifted Glossop a goal within five minutes of the restart. We must not dive into tackles and remember to stand players up as we made it far too easy for their winger to cut in. Then we got back to playing football and totally dominated the play. It was an absolute joy to watch and the referee commented several times on the way we passed and moved for each other which was a nice compliment. We had good chances to draw level and as we pushed for what would have been a deserved equaliser we were caught with another long ball over the top and a bit of hesitation cost us a goal. Totally against the run of play.

The lads were brilliant at the end and although they were dissapointed with the result they all knew that they were the better team on the day and must take great credit from the performance. I was over the moon with attitude and desire but more importantly the way we found red shirts all over the pitch.

Dylan took man of the match for stepping up and to be honest he really looked the part and was brave on a number of occasions. Fully deserved.

Well done to all 12 lads - really chuffed with every one of you.

Very dissappointing result today and it is the same old story of not taking our chances and also gifting goals at the back to the opposition.

We need to step it up boys as we are not doing ourselves justice in this league. Too many players not showing enough DESIRE.

One word - BATTLE. We played some great football but we found ouselves 2-1 down deep into the second half against a team that were more committed and first to the ball. The boys dug in and got the result and it was nothing less than they deserved but we need to ALL be in the game from the first whistle. We also need to move the ball quicker and keep the width, particularly on a pitch that was very small and narrow.

Well done to all 13 lads.

The boys were excellent today and the football, particularly in the first half, was great to see.

We deserved the victory and on another day it could have been more. The passing and movement was first class and the first touch on the ball from all players was spot on which allowed us to move the ball into dangerous areas of the pitch.

Really pleased with all 13 boys today - lets keep it going.

We should never have lost this game but again silly mistakes cost us and we had several chances which we should have taken. Even at 4-1 we could have still got back in the game.

The attacking play was excellent at times and the ball retention was good but we let ourselves down by not clearing the ball from the back and all the goals were gifted to Glossop.

Lets put it right next week.

It's taking time to settle in this division and we are making it hard for ourselves by continually gifting the opposition soft goals.

1-0 down after a minute having given away a penalty the lads stepped it up and were by far the better team in the first half. The ball retention up front needs to improve as we are putting pressure on ourselves and every lad needs to compete at this level. There were four or five lads that didn't perform anywhere near their best and this can have a dramatic impact on the team.

We need to step it up boys and do ourselves justice.

We gifted AFC Stanley two goals after five minutes which gave us a mountain to climb. The response from the lads was excellent and the football we played at times was fantastic. We need to be awake and alive to the game from the first minute and if we are then we will compete with any team.

I lost count of the number of chances we created in the second half and having hit the post/bar on four occasions I knew it wasn't going to be our day.

Keep your heads up boys.

Great commitment from the boys today away at Chadderton. The work rate and desire was first class and at times we clicked and played some good football. It was a physical game and we allowed this to distract us from passing the ball like I know we can so we will need to be aware of this going forward.

Every decision went against us, including the last minute penalty decision which even the Chadderton managers agreed should never have been given (and to their credit they didn't even appeal for), so this made life difficult for us.

Keep your heads up boys - we deserved at least a point and the encouragement at the end to each other was great to see.

The boys did their best to throw away an excellent campaign with a very nervous and tense first half performance which allowed West End to take the lead twice. The break came and it gave me a chance to talk to the lads and basically 'WAKE THEM ALL UP'.

What a difference in the second half when we were first to every ball and we began to find red shirts with every pass. We won 5-2 but it could and should have been more. When we play teams like this we need to win the first tackle and apply pressure in all parts of the field. When this happens and we maintain control of the ball then we will get the right results.

Well done to all boys for a tremendous season. It has been a pleasure working with you all.

The boys battled really well today and deserved at least a point. The game wasn't great and the nerves showed early on but there were some big performances which carried us through.

Sometimes you have to do the 'dirty' and really dig in and we had to do this against a physical team with some big lads who rely on the long ball over the top. The defence was again excellent and Niall was outstanding at centre back. Ryan was also strong in goals and he made two fantastic saves late on to keep us level. Marley worked hard in midfield and the work rate of Dylan up front was good to see.

The boys got back to winning ways today with a good, solid win away at Marple on another ridiculous pitch. We started well with some clean, crisp football but found ourselves struggling with the long ball on a tiny pitch. Marple took the lead with a ball over the top but CC put us back in the game with a well taken goal. Marple again took the lead with some sloppy defending but we bounced back with a great ball inside the full back from CC that put Matty in on the left and he finished with a great goal. Marple again took the lead in the first half with a goal which looked to be offside but after a great ball from Stevie at the back, Mackenzie went through and placed a powerful shot towards goal which the keeper could only parry into the net.

Half time 3-3.

The second half we came out and played some lovely football. CC was spreading the ball around the pitch and the back four had settled down and were beginning to win the first ball. Ryan also got them organised with some great encouragement and talking - well done Ryan and keep it up. The fourth goal came from the left with Matty putting another good ball in which the defender could only help into his own net and we really started to play some great football at this point. The fifth goal was tremendous all round from Marley and CC who worked well together with Mackenzie to put Matty in on the left. Matty then crossed for Danny at the far post to head us 5-3 in front. Quality football. CC earned a penalty for the sixth and got up and placed the ball into the keepers bottom right hand corner.

Once we got going there was only going to be one winner. I was really pleased with the attitude and the desire shown by the lads from front to back and we deserved the win (and it could have been more).

Well done to all 14 lads who played their part on the pitch today (Ryan, JP, Jordan, Niall, Stevie, Josh, CC, Matty, Marley, Danny, Mackenzie, Dylan, Wardy, Jack)

We lost tonight to two scrappy goals against a physical team who like to play the long ball over the top and defend in numbers. The football was great by Villa at times and having created several chances we came up against another good keeper and we were also guilty of missing some good chances.

When you are top of the league every team plays at at 110% against you and like I said at the end, we need to win personal battles all over the pitch. In my opinion, we had six or seven lads that showed the desire to win whereas Curzon had eleven.

If we don't take our chances in games we will make it difficult for ourselves and undo all our good work and possession.

Dukinfield Youth 0 VS 0 Reddish Villa
Man of the Match: Team performance
Goals Scored By: 3-2 on penalties. Niall Mannion, Mackenzie Hope, Callum Campbell
Well what a day! The boys were really focused and the first half performance was excellent. How we didn't go in at the break in the lead is beyond me but the lads were calm and showed real composure to go out and put in another fantastic 30 minutes. The Dukinfield keeper was inspired and made several terrific saves and it looked like it wasn't going to be our day. Dukinfield broke late on and Ryan made a great save and Marley cleared one off the line which, if it had gone in, would have been a total injustice.

Ryan and the back four of Niall, Stevie, Josh and Jordan were first class and the midfield of CC, Marley, Matty and Dylan worked well for the team. CC and Marley were both carrying knocks going into the game so full credit to them both for the performance they put in. Mackenzie and Danny both gave Dukinfield some real problems and Mackenzie was particularly unlucky on a couple of occasions.

Fully expecting extra time, the referee informed me that it would go straight to penalties. The lads all looked relaxed and I felt that it was going to be our day. The penalty shoot out is a lottery and to those lads that didn't convert, I'm proud of you all for having the nerve to step up. Well done. Niall and Mackenzie both scored great penalties which took it to sudden death. Ryan made two great saves to put us in this position and he totally looked the part. He was also unlucky not to save another when he went down low to his right and got a hand to it. So sudden death. We missed the first and it was there for Dukinfield to take the match but Ryan stepped up again and kept us in the game with another great save. CC then came up and placed a cool penalty into the right corner to put us back in a winning position. Dukinfield came up and Ryan stood his ground to make the save and take us through to the final.

Brilliant result and performance lads. I am so proud of all 14 lads that turned up for the team today. Sometimes in life you get what you deserve and this was certainly the case today.

The boys never really got going today and right from the first whistle Dukinfield were up for it. We scored a great goal with probably the only bit of football played by either side and then gave away a needless free kick which Dukinfield scored from the edge of our area. 1-1 at half-time and a couple of changes saw Danny go up front which made a difference as he scored to put us 2-1 ahead. Again, we fell asleep and conceded another sloppy goal but credt to the lads, we picked ourselves up and Danny got the winner.

Good lesson learned today. If we are not first to the ball and allow balls to bounce both in midfield and defence then we will cause ourselves unnecessary problems. Let's get back to winning the ball and then playing football like I know we can.

On the plus side, the lads showed their determination to win the game after being pulled back on two occasions.

The boys beat Curzon Ashton 4-1 today and the play was excellent. All boys contributed to a great team performance and the work rate and movement was first class. Villa thouroughly deserved the victory and the footballl at times was a joy to watch. Some big performances, notably from Danny in the first half who got us off to a good start with a great goal from long range. CC was tremendous in the middle of the park and really got us playing, particularly in the second half. Marley won some great headers and tackles in the game and Niall and Jack were fantastic and the reading of the ball by both lads to defend the long ball was comendable. Jordan and Matty combined well for the second goal and had a good understanding in the game and the same applied with Danny and Josh on the right. Dylan's workrate up front was superb and Mackenzie finished his two goals in style as well as making some neat runs when we were in good positions. Ryan was composed at the back and his talking to the back four was spot on. Stevie came on and played his part and I was pleased with JP, Owen and Nathan for the attitude they showed towards the team.

The boys beat Hough End away today. After a good first half performance on a small and narrow pitch the boys went in at the interval with a 5-1 lead. The second half we lost our way and the shape of the team allowed Hough End to score a couple of soft goals. We must remember to keep this shape and it was frustrating to see several lads playing for themselves by going for goal rather than playing for the team, particularly when we had posession in good positions on the pitch.

Lets learn from this and make sure we take it into the game next week.

Reddish Villa 20+ shots and 2 goals. Marple 3 shots and 2 goals. Nothing more to say really.

We were not at our best but still dominated the game. The first half we played some great football and went in a goal down from a poor referee's decision. The second half we dominated but didn't really play to our potential. Some good performances, notably Josh Belfield in the first half and Jack Griffiths throughout. Matty had a very good second half and Ryan's handling was also good. Mackenzies finish for the second goal was also tremendous and he was denied a second by another poor referee's decision which would have taken the game to 3-1.

A good win for the lads today. The midfield, defence and goalkeeper were excellent and the forward line worked very well. All boys contributed to make it a good team performance.

CC and Marley dominated the middle of the park again and both boys work rate and commitment for the team is there for all to see. Matty continues to create problems for any full-back he comes up against with some great wing play and Josh on the other wing delivered some fine balls in to the box in the first half. Danny was the main beneficiary from these balls, putting in a good performance when he was pushed up front following an injury to Mackenzie.

The back five were very strong with Ryan continuing where he left off last week by talking to the back four and keeping them organised. Jack and Niall never put a foot wrong and Stevie did well when he came on, chipping in with a nice goal in the second half. I gave Jordan MOM as, in my opinion, he was up against Mossley's most creative player and he marshalled him extremely well, putting in some fantastic tackles.

The front line of Mackenzie, Dylan and Danny worked hard and made some nice runs for the midfield. Keep this up boys. All subs contributed, with Owen taking his goals really well and Nathan and Wardy sending some good balls in from the wings. JP also looked strong and he made a superb tackle in the later stages which reemphasised the commitment the boys have.

Well done lads.

We played really well today and should not have lost the game. I was extremely proud of the work rate and commitment that the boys showed and on another day we would have got the result.

On the two occasions that we have played teams from the division above us we havn't looked out of place and it was nice to hear the Chadderton manager say that we were the best team that they had played so far this season. A nice compliment and deserved recognition for the team. Having said that, we need to make our posession count by creating more chances. At times we were camped in the Chadderton half and it was frustrating that we didn't test their goalkeeper more.

There were some good performances from the lads. I thought CC and Marley again gave everything in the middle of the park and the back four were excellent, particularly Jack and Jordan.

Ryan in goals took the MOM. Although he had very little to do in the game I was impressed with his kicking, handling and his talking to the defence. It was the best I had seen from him this season and he deserved the recognition.

Again, as I said at the end of the game to the lads, I would like to mention the terrific encouragement for the team from the subs on the day who really got behind the players on the pitch.

Man of the Match: Callum Campbell

Well what can I say! Do you know when you get one of those days when nothing will go right for you? Well this was one of those days.

First off, and this isn't sour grapes because Marple battled really well, the pitch is too small and is more suited to 7 a-side. Secondly, the Marple team was unrecogniseable from two weeks ago. A lot can change in two weeks!

To the match itself. Reddish Villa from 1 to 11 took too long to get going and were fast asleep. Every first and second tackle was won by Marple in the first 10 minutes and we were far too complacent. Having said that we were never in trouble and unfortunately we didn't make our posession or chances count. We had 13 corners in the first half and should have took our chances.

0-0 at half-time.

The second half was much the same. The ball spent most of the time in the air and when we did get it down it was a really difficult pitch to play football on as there was no room available to players. We then engineered our own downfall by gifting Marple two very soft goals. However, the boys responded magnificently and gave 100 per cent until the final whistle, pulling a goal back and having several chances before our goal which were squandered. In my opinion, we created enough opportunities to take the game but we need to attack corners better and also the final ball from wide positions needs to be worked on.

We also need to show more desire when circumstances appear to be against us. It is difficult to overcome a team that defends in numbers but we have to sometimes play in a different way and we began to do this towards the end of the second half but unfortunately time was against us.

We will learn valuable lessons from todays game to take with us for the remainder of the season.

Chins up lads - lets put it right next weekend.

The boys did what they had to do on a very small pitch which was more suited to seven-a-side than eleven. It stopped our passing game and we had to work hard, particularly in the first 20 minutes when Marple were fired up for the game and using the long ball to their advantage.

The lads settled down, got back to winning the first ball and tried to play under difficult circumstances. We took control and stayed on top until the final whistle with every lad playing their part.

We travelled to Didsbury Road Primary School to play Stockport Vikings in the first round of the Manchester Cup. The lads lost an early goal, but recovered well to go in at the break 3-1 up.

The formation changed at the break due to injury and the lads seemed to lose their way a little but we came through to deseveredly win 5-3. The lads know themselves that we can play better and we need to work more as a team and get back to winning the first and second tackles. We also need to TALK more!

I would like to mention Nathan's attitude on the line in the second half. Although he wasn't on the pitch at the time, his encouragement for the lads was terrific and this is exactly the type of 'team mentality' I am looking for. Well done Nathan!

Mackenzie took the man of the match as he scored three very important goals to give us some breathing space. All three goals were very well taken and the first was a real strikers finish.

Probably our toughest game so far and the boys came through although we didn't play anwhere near our capability. The football was good in patches but we need to make the ball do the work more and the final ball in from the wings needs to be better. We went in at the break 4-0 up but it should have been more on chances created.

There were some good performances but Niall edged the man of the match as he kept his concentration throughout and we will need this type of performance going into the cup game. It is easy to lose your discipline and shape when the team has established a lead but Niall didn't do this and I thought his second half performance was very good.

All goals were well worked and there were some good finishes from Mackenzie and Dylan, particularly Mackenzie's free kick.

Nathan and Ryan also made a good save in each half to give the team their first clean sheet.

So we travelled to Dukinfield for our first away game of the season. The pitch was in fantatsic condition and I knew that this would be to our advantage and would suit our footballing game. The game started and straight away the midfield of CC, Marley, Josh and Dylan took control of the game. We created several chances and the link up play by Mackenzie was very good, bringing Dylan into the game on several occasions early on. Josh took the first goal very well, a nice finish at the far post and we continued to create chances with Matty getting into good positions along with Mackenzie. It took a while for the second goal to come, but it was worth the wait. CC made a run down the right side and then he cut back on to his left foot and curled a great shot into the bottom left hand corner. Matty then got on the score sheet with the third, the keeper unable to get down to his near post to prevent the ball going in and at this point the keeper had a moment to compose himself. We then appeared to lose our concentration as when play resumed we conceded a very sloppy goal.

Half Time - 3-1 to Villa

We pulled ourselves together at the break and we knew that the next goal would be crucial. Ryan came on for Nathan in goal (both lads gave a solid performance between the sticks) and the lads came out focused with Matty bagging the goal that we needed. The midfield of CC and Marley continued to press and I don't recall either lad really missing a tackle all day. The defence of Stevie, Niall, Jack and Wardy kept their shape and on the odd occasion that Dukinfield broke the danger was quickly cancelled out. Jack and Niall continue to develop a good understanding and both full backs are performing well. Marley scored a good fifth goal with a nice run and finish and Matty then crossed for Mackenzie to finish with an 'over the shoulder volley' at the far post to make it six. We then made a few changes with Jordan, JP, Nathan and Owen coming on and once all the lads had settled down we continued to play good foootball. Matty scored the seventh and the game was over.

Full Time - 7-1 to Villa

I must add that their manager informed me that his team were unbeaten last season and only conceded 6 goals so this was a great win.

A good, solid performance boys with some great football. Keep up the good work!

Reddish Villa 14 VS 1 Reddish Phoenix
Man of the Match: Joe Albiston
Goals Scored By: Matthew Flynn (4), Callum Campbell (3), Mackenzie Hope (3), Joe Albiston (2), Steven Conboy, Dylan Swales
First game of the season and first league game at 11 a side. The lads performed very well and played some great football. Callum and Joe were outstanding in midfield and the forward line of Matty and Mackenzie looked lively and both weighed in with some important goals. The defence was tight and Jack and Niall looked comfortable considering it was the first time that they had played together in those positions. Wardy and Stevie were solid at full back and Dylan and Josh worked hard for the team. Special mention goes to Nathan in goal who didn't have too much to do but nevertheless he kept his concentration and performed well. Owen came on in the second half and played his part for the team.

Well done lads - keep up the good work!
